DM-facing changes
The species reworks in this document are primarily based off of the content the Player’s Handbook, Xanathar’s Guide to Everything, Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything, and Mordenkainen Presents: Monsters of the Multiverse (with a species’s most recent reprint taking the spot of that’s species’s “official” version). As a result, many species that belong to specific settings (such as Eberron’s Dragonmarked variants, or Owlin from the Strixhaven setting/adventure book) will not be present in this rework document.
Many balance changes made in this document are being made with the understanding that this will create a power disparity between these unmodified setting-specific species and the species modified in this document. In the event that you are running a campaign in these settings and allowing these species, I would recommend one of the following courses of action:
- Revert all reworks that nerf a species’s power level in this document and allow all shenanigans (from flight to magic resistance).
- Homebrew changes to the unaffected species yourself, using the changes in this document as a guide (flight turns into limited flight and safe landing features, with access to a feat at level 8 that expands into real flying capabilities; magic resistance is a once a day feature; etc.)
