Wiki launch changes 3/18/2026

Changes made during the movement of From the Pale content from its google docs homes to the wiki:

Core rule changes:

  • Made picking up and using an improvised weapon not consume a free action/environmental interaction.

Race changes:

  • Limited flight was buffed on flying races to allow them to stay in the air for a full round upon use, with the option to continue the flight if they use the feature again on their next turn.
  • Dropped the Dragonborn buffs, assuming the player is using Fizban’s Dragonborns (as this is the most recent printing of the race).
  • Made variant human into a subrace, and made “regular human” into a different subrace with more skill proficiencies. Buffed the number of those proficiencies from 2 to 3+a tool.
  • Changed Hybrid’s grappling appendages to function just as unarmed attacks with the capability to grapple and punch, but nothing else.
  • Nerfed Minotaur to not be able to take the dash action the turn after using goring rush to make it less of a straight upgrade for builds that don’t have extra attack/early level martials.

Class changes:

  • Nerfed Way of Long Death Monk’s Hour of Reaping to not be consistent frightens. Creatures which fail their saves now are immune to the frighten for a minute. The AoE is good enough, I think.

Feat changes:

  • Clarified Hunting Rites’ effect, when the feat is selected multiple times, and added a duration for the runes applied to a weapon.
  • Clarified wording on Defensive Duelist’s effect when dodging a melee attack, and buffed the feat by allowing it to apply to all attacks, and gave it a new benefit when blocking attacks from ranged attackers too.
  • Fixed Dual Wielder to require TWF attacks to not allow the same weapon be swung in succession, closing off unintended buffs like to spells and gear with the light property (e.g. Shadow Blade).
  • Buffed Durable to completely ignore the Wounded condition until the player has 4 wounds.
  • Martial Adept now requires proficiency in at least one martial weapon.
  • Piercer had its flavor text updated, and was given the ability to apply its movement to your mount (for lance builds).
  • Fixed wording on Revenant Blade feat, and made its bonus action attacks stronger once you gain the feat, in exchange for its half feat status.
  • Buffed Wood Elf Magic, giving it the ability to learn Speak With Animals, and cast it as a ritual.

Spell changes:

  • Buffed Green Flame Blade’s damage jump distance. Currently, any build with access to this will often want to whirlwind attack instead (at least until level 11’s cantrip advancement) unless the enemy target is out of their whirlwind attack reach. Will need to monitor this change, and the pick rate of this cantrip in comparison to Booming Blade; however, Booming Blade already is usually the more picked cantrip of the two anyways, so I think a buff like this might even the playing field between the two.
  • Decreased the AoE scaling of Color Spray. The range now only increases every other spell slot level instead of every level.
  • Added a (cheaper than the original) consumed component cost for Find Familiar.
  • Added Detect Traps to the Artificer spell list.
  • Newly buffed Flame Blade. The spell now works better for druids and sorcerers who want to wade into melee, while not making it overbuffing the melee damage potential for Moon Druids.
  • Friends spell now has the targeted creature suspect the caster charmed it, rather than know.
  • Buffed Gust to move creatures in any horizontal direction too.
  • Heat Metal now requires the enemy to fail their save in order to apply disadvantage on checks and saves.
  • Further nerfed Vortex Warp to only be able to target medium or smaller creatures at base level.
  • Nerfed Web to not force the creature to save against the spell on the beginning of its next turn if it freed itself on the end of its last turn.
  • Witch Bolt now is on the artificer spell list.
  • Wither and Bloom is now on the Ranger spell list.
  • Buffed Volatile Flames to be able to trigger more often, but deal a bit less damage up front. The caster can also (slowly) move it around on their turns.

Maneuver Changes:

  • Changed Disarming Demeanor, Terrifying Presence, Cautious Eye, and Climber’s Practice into 3rd level maneuvers.
  • Changed Brace into an 8th level maneuver (up from 5th).
  • Changed Rally into a 5th level maneuver.
