Worldshaper (Strength)
- Others may live in a world of immovable concrete, metal, and stone. You live in a world of cardboard by merit of your sheer might. Break down walls. Bend bonds of iron. Shatter the earth beneath you. Some may shape the world with their intellect, foresight, and charm. You will shape it through force.
- Where Athletics is used for a player acting within their environment (climbing, swimming, jumping, etc), Worldshaper is used for a player acting upon their environment (breaking down walls/doors, breaking free from bonds, throwing an object really hard/far, etc.). The other key difference between these skills is often in whether technique is required, or if it only requires brute strength (grappling a creature for example remains tied to athletics; throwing a creature is Worldshaper).
- Example uses for Worldshaper:
- Breaking a barrier/door/wall or restraints.
- Success – you break the barrier down, which might cause a great deal of noise, but otherwise get you where you need to go.
- Critical or repeated failure – you slightly bruise the body part used to break down the barrier and are convinced you cannot break the object down under current circumstances.
- Throwing an object or creature (detailed rules for these things can be found in the combat section).
- Breaking a barrier/door/wall or restraints.
Engineering (Intelligence)
- One must never fall behind the steady march of scientific progress! Understand the operation of (and how to hijack) the scientific marvels of the present, and be in the know about mechanical research of the future. When you stand atop the shoulders of giants, you stand above the world itself.
- Even in a setting less like Eberron and more like the Forgotten Realms, there is room for this skill. Water wheels, windmills, viaducts, and even basic architecture/construction all could call for this skill in a low tech setting.
- Example uses for Engineering:
- Fix something.
- Success – you find the source causing something to not work properly, and fix it yourself if you have the tools on hand.
- Partial Success – you find the source of the problem, but aren’t sure how to fix it without risking further damage to the machine.
- Failure – you fail to find the source of the problem.
- Sabotage something (hotwire a car, hobble siege equipment, etc).
- Success – you understand how to sabotage what you’re working on, and can do so quickly if you have the necessary tools on hand.
- Partial success – you can probably sabotage what you’re working on if you have the right tools, but it will take a while.
- Failure – you aren’t sure how best to sabotage what you want short of… less scientific methods like just smashing away with a hammer.
- Devastating failure – you are convinced you properly sabotaged the equipment. Surely there won’t be unintended consequences from this, right?
- Fix something.
